10 Reasons Why Working At Raptr Is Awesome

You see a lot of what we make here at Raptr, but never on what it’s like to work here. So take a gander at the 10 reasons why it’s awesome to work at Raptr – it might persuade you to work in the video game industry. If Raptr sounds like the place for you, take a look at our job openings!

Meet the team! Video is in the sidebar >>

1. After Hours Gaming

As you can guess, many of us are gamers. It’s not unusual for us to have a game of League of Legends or StarCraft 2 after a hard day’s work. Sometime we even game during work hours,  you know, because it’s “research.” We also have a 50″ Plasma HDTV with a Wii, PS3, and 360 hooked up to it for those that don’t play PC games. The only downside: Because everyone can see your gaming stats now with Raptr, you have to protect your gaming street cred by playing LOTS of games!

2. Company Celebration Events

We like to celebrate our accomplishments. Whether it be hitting X million users, signing up a new partnership deal, or finishing a site redesign. Most recently we had a BBQ party by turning our parking lot into a mini fair. For one of our bigger accomplishments, we went to a local bar and watched The World Cup. Considering we been growing so quickly, I don’t think we’ll run out of things to celebrate about anytime soon!

3. Company Sports

Just because we’re a video game startup doesn’t mean we don’t like to do active things. And no, “active” does not mean playing Wii Sports competitively. Fridays after work, we gather and play a few games of Ultimate Frisbee. We also have a Ping Pong table that we regularly use. Sounds like a couple of us kicking off some other sports soon. Company sports help counter #6!

4. Dogs

Don’t tell the guy working next to me, but sometimes, seeing the same people gets boring. Luckily, every once in a while, someone will bring in their dog. Dogs always light up the office. They’re cute at everything that they do whether it be playing with each other or getting tangled in computer wires. Dogs are a Raptr’s best friend :). Luckily, we’ve had zero “incidents” so far.

5. Open Office

Working at Raptr is like a college LAN party in your living room. We all work in a large open space and while it may seem like there’s no sense of privacy, it actually makes things very lively. Everyone is your friend… Sometimes people are busy, sometimes not as busy… Someone is always up for a game of something… Everyone will chat with you about games… Nerf darts of flying around the office randomly… It’s got a great communal vibe. The only down side: you can’t click those NSFW links that are sent to you. And if you ever need quiet time for a nap or to do some thinking, you can head to one of our lounge areas and chill. Just be forewarned that napping can sometimes be dangerous, as some people are prone to office pranks… and I’m prone to posting them up on our Facebook page.

6. Snacks and Drinks

Snacks

Raptr is always stocked with free snacks and drinks. Cases stacked high with all variations of soda. Chips, crackers, and munchies never seen to run out.  For those that are more health conscious, we been trying to also introduce some healthier fair, like nuts, fruits, and juice. But I’ll be honest, many of us have gained weight since working at Raptr… Which is why we now have a competition going around on who can lose the most weight by Thanksgiving.

7. Beer O’ Clock

4:30 on Friday is Beer O’ Clock. That’s when we have our company meeting, while people fill up on beer. Heck, anytime after a rough day can be Beer O’ Clock. Raptr is always stocked with some sort of beer. In-fact, we have two beer fridges: one normal mini-fridge and one kegerator. Don’t know what a kegerator is? It’s a keg carved into a fridge. Yeah, we built that. We’re not all drunkards (many of us don’t even like to drink), but knowing that the company is chill enough to do so adds to the awesomeness that is the Raptr office.

8. Game Library

We have a game library consisting of thousands of games. The best part? You can rent them out at any time for however long you want. Perfect for those that want to try a game before they buy it or only play the single player. We also have arcade cabinets with classics such as Asteroids and Donkey Kong that anyone can play at anytime. Current Donkey Kong high score: 72,000.

9. Growth (Hint: New Office Move!)

Raptr is growing. Fast. Not only in the size of people that are using Raptr, but also within the company. We’re moving into a bigger space because of that fact. Which means more room to breath. To be honest, our current space is so tightly packed with people, ping pong table, game room, stacks of soda, that we might have to sit on top of each other soon. Luckily, we’ll soon have enough space to roll around.

10. The People

I know it’s cheesy to say, but the people at Raptr do rock. And it’s not just because most of us play games and love to talk about games. This is really a great bunch of people who really love what they do. We got some really bright minds, and when we put our heads together, it’s always interesting to see the results. OK, back to games: Some of us make indie games on the side, some of us collect pinball/arcade machines at home, and we all love this industry. This will not change as long as we can help it – we may be hiring a lot of people, but they have to fit into the company culture. Take home message: the people at Raptr rock.

I think this would definately qualify as what I’d like to call my *dream* job. I’ve got 2 years while finishing off my C.S. bachelor’s degree to polish off a resume. /grin
We are the quintessential gaming household (by household, I mean me and my son). We own every gaming system back to the original Nintendo and Genesis (both still work!) and my password program for my online games since 1998 contains so many accounts I have to sort the folders holding them by alphabet. Our biggest fear in life is a power outage. (talk about panic, we’ll literally go to the nearest internet cafe or whip out the DS or laptop for our fix) Yes, this would be the job that I wouldn’t mind Monday coming and I’d never call in sick. Look for my resume in the future!

Man…I’d LOVE to work for you guys. I just don’t think I have the qualifications unless you need a communications expert. It’d be lovely though.

I’d actually love to work here; I was extremely impressed (and like the UI) of the website … the footer fyi is pretty great. :).

Anyway, very curious (haven’t had a chance to look at positions, or very much of your technology stack yet) — nor have the active time to RIGHT NOW, but would love to be contacted about a job.

    I sent in my resume :) to feedback@raptr.com :).

You guys are awesome. If you guys ever need an evil henchman, or an Alfred to your Bruce Wayne, I’ll dig the broken glass out of the garbage disposal so long as no one is within 5 feet. oh and there is an RF blocker…
