Show People What You Like

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

We’ve added a new feature you may have noticed on the feeds. In addition to the ability to comment on your friends’ activity, you can now just mark that you “like” something.

Some ways we’ve already seen people use this include showing their support for a well written game review, liking a funny status update or congratulating someone on unlocking a particularly difficult achievement.

We’ll be continuing to add to this feature but definitely look forward to seeing what you guys think of it. Perhaps you can let us know if you “like” it!

Contextual Hovers, Platforms, Compare Genres and More

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Although we consider the latest additions to be a “small update”, it’s actually filled with quite a lot of goodies. We’ve taken some of your feedback and added some more ways for you to learn about friends and games.

Contextual Hovers

Hovers on Game Art and Avatars (by Raptr.com)
The first thing you’ll probably notice are the hovers that we show over any game boxart or person’s picture. For games, we’ll give you a quick view into how many people play a game, how many hours its been played by the community and of course, its rating from Raptr’s community and from Metacritic. For people, we will show you how compatible your gaming tastes are with that person, how many mutual friends you have and more.

Platforms

Platform Distribution (by Raptr.com)
Sure, we have a ton of ways already to show you what a Raptr gamer likes to play. The kinds of genres they like to play, the games they’ve played the most and what they’ve been playing recently are just a few examples. But all of this doesn’t matter if they play on a completely different console from you. So that’s why we added a platform distribution graph to everyone’s profile. Rollover the platforms to see how their game library breaks down by platform!

Compare Genres to Yourself

We’ve gotten great feedback on the genre maps. Now we’ve added a convenient way for you to look at a person’s genres and compare the types of games they play to your own. Convenient!

Additional Time Frames for Game Graphs

On each game page for which we track activity, we’re now showing more than just the last 30 days and now show the shorter time frame of 7 days and the longer view of 1 year. Now you can see how well a game is doing compared to when it launched, or notice how Left 4 Dead has really picked up in popularity after the new maps came out.

Easier to Find Friends

Easier to Find Friends (by Raptr.com)
We know that people have had difficulty finding their friends on the site so we’ve consolidated a number of our sections to one simple page where you can see which of your friends are on Raptr, get recommendations for people you may know and of course, invite people who you think will enjoy the community.

Much more to come

As mentioned earlier, this is a relatively small release for us. We have a lot of things in the works that we think you’ll really enjoy. We’re listening to your feedback over on our forums so please keep the suggestions coming!
