Hello from the New Guy! (for now)

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Hello Raptr Fans! I’m Nick, and I’m the new product manager at Raptr.  In my past life, I was at Yahoo!, where I was a product manager on del.icio.us.  As a lifelong gamer and social software expert, I’m really excited about what we’re doing to bring gamers together and help them find the best games for them, regardless of whether they’re hardcore or casual.

I came here because at Raptr, they realize that all gamers are not alike.  Just about everyone plays some sort of video game.  Since Pong launched in 1972, generations of gamers now play an incredibly wide array of games on the internet, PC’s, handhelds, and consoles.  Some people play for hours a day on their PC’s and consoles, others only play a couple times a month on the internet, with a whole range of folks in between.  I’ll be helping to build Raptr for all those people- because we think there are some interesting problems around discovery and connectedness that all gamers face, and I think we’re in a great position to solve those problems.

I’m psyched.  If you find the idea of building the next generation social application for gamers intriguing, shoot us an email at jobs@raptr.com.  We’re looking for a PHP/Webdev and a QA Automation engineer.  Please send your resumes- then you’ll get the “honor” of being the “new guy”!

Flash Game Detection and Friend Playing Notification

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Last week we released a new version of the Raptr Client containing some exciting new features.

As you know, the Raptr Client detects the games you’re playing on the PC. But Raptr isn’t just about PC games, we’re also excited about all the gaming happening on the web. The latest client can detect over 1,700 flash games played via Firefox. With this feature, we hope to provide a network for the web game community, through which we can introduce you and your friends to new and exciting games.

We detect flash games!

To further improve the communication between you and your friends, the Raptr Client systray icon will now change color whenever any of your friends starts to play a game. Hovering your mouse over the icon reveals which games your friends are currently playing. No more missing out when your friends are gaming without you!

Finally, we have changed the grid layout on our games, recommendations, and download manager tabs. The new layout organizes the information in a much cleaner way.

Please keep the feedback coming. We promise to work hard to deliver you the best gaming experience ever!

Game on!
