Changes to the site, and new games supported

Friday, April 25th, 2008

We’ve been spending a ton of time lately re-working and improving different parts of our site. There hasn’t been a lot of time to list everything we’re doing and most of it has been nearly invisible to our users.

One thing that is probably fairly visible is that we’ve removed the themes from the site for the time being. The theme selector was removed from the account settings page, and everyone now defaults to the same theme. They were lots of fun for the past month or two, but with the refactoring of code, and the improvements to the site, it’s been difficult to maintain. Once we’re done with the majority of these improvements, we’ll look at bringing themes back.

We’ve also been quietly adding support for games over the past weeks. We haven’t yet published a complete list of all the games that the Raptr client supports, but it’s well over a thousand, and growing monthly. The latest games we’ve added support for in the Raptr client are:

Assassin’s Creed
Audiosurf
Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath
Frontlines: Fuel of War
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

If there’s something you want to see supported by Raptr, post a reply here at the blog, or you can post in our forums on the Raptr site. Give us some info about it, and we’ll do our best to get it supported for you. If there’s any kind of interest, I’ll give more regular updates on upcoming game support.

114 Video Games From 1972-2007

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

It should come as no surprise that we’re all big gamers here at Raptr. This video found on YouTube is probably a good litmus test for just how much of a gamer one is. Personally, I found that I’d played 83 out of the 114 games listed. I don’t know if I should be proud or afraid

How many of these games have you played?

The Biggest Loser, Raptr edition

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Once upon a time, there was a happy engineer at Raptr who used to weigh 170lbs. Unfortunately, due to the free sodas and snacks provided by the company, he began to consume large amounts of red bull, diet coke, and shrimp chips at work. In less than 7 months, his weight had increased all the way up to 185lbs. Maybe it is time to coin the term “Raptr 15″?

That engineer described above is me! As the saying goes, what goes up must come down. Since it is much easier to lose weight when you are doing it with someone else, I decided to challenge the rest of the team yesterday at the office to a one month weight loss contest. At the end of the contest, the person who loses the most weight in terms of percentage will be declared the biggest Raptr Loser!

To create the right incentive, I have it set up where each contestant would pitch in $20 to a pool. A weekly weigh-in will take place every Monday, and the person losing the least weight would have to pitch in another $5 to the pool. In the end, the winner will take home the entire pot.

Here are the contestants and their weight after the initial weigh-in. Our CEO Dennis has also assigned the odds of winning to each contestant:

  1. Patrick: 185 lbs (2 to 1)
  2. Kevin: 164 lbs (1.5 to 1)
  3. Norman: 175 lbs (1.5 to 1)
  4. Thomas: 175 lbs (1 to 1)
  5. Ricardo: 180 lbs (1 to 1)

I hope this contest will help us get ready just in time for the summer!

Do you need to be inspired to start your exercise program too? Check out the following videos to get yourself pumped up!

Good luck everyone!

Update: The results are in.
